Port 5353
mDNSAutomatic local network device discovery (mDNS / Bonjour)
Full name:
Multicast DNS (mDNS / Bonjour / Avahi)
What is port 5353?
UDP port 5353 is used by mDNS (Multicast DNS), the zero-configuration networking protocol that lets devices discover each other on the local network without a centralized DNS server. Well-known implementations include Apple Bonjour (iOS, macOS), Avahi (Linux), and Chromecast device discovery. mDNS uses the multicast address 224.0.0.251 and the .local domain. It should never leak beyond the local network segment.
