What is port 443?

HTTPS on port 443 is the encrypted counterpart of HTTP, using TLS (Transport Layer Security) to protect communication between browser and server. It is now the default for the web — Google Chrome marks any page without HTTPS as "Not Secure". Let's Encrypt provides free TLS certificates, making HTTPS universally accessible. Port 443 is also used by APIs, webhooks, and mobile applications.
