Port 161
SNMPMonitoring and management of network devices (SNMP)
Full name:
Simple Network Management Protocol
What is port 161?
SNMP on UDP port 161 is used to monitor and manage routers, switches, printers, and servers — querying traffic counters, CPU load, memory usage, and more. SNMPv1 and v2c use plaintext community strings (typically "public") instead of passwords, making them highly insecure. This port must be blocked from the internet. Use SNMPv3, which provides proper authentication and encryption.
